Richard Houck

Houck Portraits Photographer Painter

Richard Houck is an artist.

Richard utilizes his knowledge of art history, his mastery of lighting, and his technological proficiency to provide stunning photographs and oil paintings that go well beyond the expectations of his clients.

As a child, Richard was known for drawing or painting on every piece of paper he could find (as well as walls, floors, and driveways). Luckily for the Houck clan, Richard’s father worked at a local paper mill and paper was never in short supply. Throughout junior high and high school, he continued to draw, focusing mainly on portraiture. In college, Richard studied engineering while taking art courses as electives where he won awards for some of his earlier paintings. Having come from a hardworking blue-collar background, however, Richard never pursued art as a career path. Half way through college, Richard changed his major to business and continued to pursue a career in that field.

Fifteen years and two fantastic kids later, Richard began to get the itch for creativity again. He began taking art classes at a local college where he learned proper techniques for watercolor, pastel, chalk, acyclic, and his absolute favorite medium – oil. It was during this period, that Richard began studying photography. He hoped it would improve his painting and portraiture techniques.

Linda Houck

I truly believe that portraits are treasures – precious fleeting moments captured and made timeless, reflections of our relationships to be cherished for generations to come. Accurately capturing those moments starts with forming a relationship with my clients. I cannot think of anything I’d rather do than get to know you and immortalize your priceless memories.

You will find that we are not a hustle and bustle operation. We are friendly and relaxed. We take our time because we want your experience to be memorable, not stressful or rushed. Patience is key when photographing babies and children and I always allow extra time for each session.

It is my goal to capture the true essence of your child, both in love and spirit.

Richard is a certified professional photographer, the president of the Professional Photographers Association of North Mississippi, and was recently inducted into The Dead Artists Society.
